This blog is reserved for the most outstanding gay-themed films released in different parts of the globe. It is dedicated to all those who happen to prefer the same gender for meaningful relationship and to those who understand the fact that being gay is not a choice and in fact, a vital part of the creation.
In this blog, gay-themed are those films wherein the central plot of the story revolves around its principal gay character(s), meaning, any film whereby it has a gay segment or gay character playing a minor role is certainly out of here. The film should have garnered the highest honours in the field of visual entertainment and/or have been recognized for its brilliance by legit and credible critics and reviewers.
Whilst the term “best” is highly subjective or has the tendency to favour a certain taste, let me assure you that it would be least applied here for this blog’s intention is honest and just. Story, direction, acting, script, validity are the absolute criteria for the selection. Therefore, a highly-flawed film will never land here even if it is a certified box office success or the director and its actors are very popular.
Hopefully, this blog encourages those who are still afraid to come out of the closet and at the same time opens the eyes and hearts of those homophobic individuals who up to this day keep on degrading and bashing the gays. It’s time they accepted the fact that just like them, the gays are equally important part of the society today… until the end of human existence.
Live proud and enjoy this blog!
Notes: - Only the first ten films are ranked and the others are all runners-up to the TOP TEN. - Recently released films will not be available for video streaming in fairness to producers!!! - If the video links fail, the video server must have been asked to delete them on grounds of copyright violation or/and someone acting like god have flagged them for insane reason(s).
SHENG XIA GUANG NIAN is one remarkable film from Taiwan and I'd say, one of the best in Asia. The chemistry amongst the characters make this dramatic piece so real that I now believe that such really takes place in this world... the love between best friends that is developed overtime. I am sure that the only reason why there are not so much of this kind in the open is simply because in most circumstances, both friends happen to be straight that their "romantic love" for each other remains their little most kept secret...
IMDb Details [NOTE: Due to too much exposure of male nudity, no streaming of the actual film would be shown.]
Some of you would probably disagree that this film does not deserve a place here but having considered its historical value and the way the film has been edited are the main reasons why it should be here. I am sure that those in their forties and older would definitely agree with me. After all, they're the ones that enjoyed those sexy photographs and magazines.
I have to disagree with those that say that the acting was terrible. As a matter of fact, the actors' portrayals were very realistic. You don't expect the models to act... you actually expect them to exhibit their best physical assets. If you felt interested whilst watching them flex their muscles and display their smooth bodies, then I'd say that they acted well as they succeeded in getting your attention!
Furthermore, seeing Joe D’Alessandro and company still looking good and fit is a treat. They should serve as inspirations as to why we should take care of how we look and feel... it's for the sake of a healthier future.
IMDb Details [NOTE: Due to the distributor's request to cease exhibiting the film for free, only preview/trailer below would be shown for public viewing.]
THE TRIP is one of the best gay romances ever filmed that its romantic charm and entertainment impact would be intact for years, therefore, a classic. The chemistry of the actors that portrayed the leading parts are too affecting that there’ll be a lot of moments when you watch that you’d smile, laugh and cry.
EL MAR is not the stereotypical gay romantic film you use to watch as it is an intensely morbid love story about fascist executions, disease, bloody animal abuse, and violent homoeroticism.
The story, the direction and the acting ensemble would definitely affect you... either you'll hate them or simply adore their brilliance. It's definitely one of the best and a MUST watch!
NOUS ÉTIONS UN SEUL HOMME explores the longing of two runaways in the middle of the forest... one from the asylum and the other from his battalion. It all started when the simple pheasant took care of the wounded soldier with the intention of bringing him back to health and probably have someone to talk with whilst recuperating. During the healing stage, the Frenchman becomes determined to keep his German friend as permanent company whereas the latter develops an urge for the former sexually.
Some may find it bizarre but it is actually the uniqueness of this very imaginative fiction that makes it so mesmerizing. The realistic and honest portrayals of the two lead actors can make one believe that such state could happen. I am not a sadist nor a masochist but I certainly loved the film's entirety. However strange the film's ending, it only confirms that once you reach the very peak of love, you simply will not let it go... until the end.
A very entertaining joint film from Canada and the UK, TOUCH OF PINK has so many to offer which make me wonder why it has been overlooked by the many especially those gay film festivals. It shows not only a very realistic interracial gay situation but the genuine love of a mother to a (gay) son. What is more amazing is that it shows reactions to gay affairs within a very conservative culture.
The presence of the imaginary friend depicts the escape of a person who feels the longing of parental love and understanding. And the revelation of a secret -- the affair between two cousins -- is indeed a situation that exists everywhere in the world.
I cried... I cried... I cried. And before I knew it, my shirt was half wet. It was the incredible effect of this truly magnificent television film very recently released in the US. I have not read the book and I don't know whether the book would land my hands and I say, it's a pity because there's this one scene that bothered me quite a lot which I would consider the only flaw in the film. If I were the editor, I would just thrash it because to me, it's a minus factor not on the film but to homosexuality as a whole. Maybe I have misjudged it but I felt exactly the same after watching it the second time.
I have read some comments from those who have viewed it and I can't understand how they can say that some scenes were cut that they seem not to be connected.... and so forth. Lucky me, I didn't feel the way they did for it was well-scripted and directed and brilliantly acted by Ms Weaver and Mr Kelly... except for that one flaw. And I am not revealing it because it's simply a product of my far out respect for humanity... for the homosexuals to be more specific.
My final judgement: This inspirational gem is extremely good that it should be watched by every single member of the society. Every household should own one so purchase your DVD copy once they become available in stores!
A very compelling television feature from Germany showing the suffering of a once happily married middle-aged man, and also the sufferings simultaneously caused by his somewhat late coming out to his wife, daughter and most of all, his son. A warning to all the closeted gays not to embark on a life they cannot handle later in their lives. To put it simply, stop deceiving your own self as the consequences of your pretention will definitely cause severe hurt than happiness to yourself and the people you care for.
LES ROSEAUX SAUVAGES is probably the best film ever made about teenage life. It's about coming out age and the pains and confusions and the excitement and the happiness and the love and the expectations that go along with it. Excellent direction... outstanding lead performers... and a great story that is now a classic. A true winner!
SECOND SKIN's story is not the usual romantic drama you see for its subject matter is different but definitely in existence today. Indeed, it's scary when you discover that the person you love has a secret you never knew before making the legal commitment. All three lead actors' performances are simply compelling!
Hopefully, such unwanted situation does not exist in so many relationships...
I've watched hundreds of gay-themed films and I proclaim that this is the most wholesome and pleasant to watch even if gay romance is practically absent. I believe that the effeminate boy will turn gay when he grows up and showing this to a family would let each member understand that "gayness" is not a matter of choice but simply a special characteristic built-in to an individual destined to be gay. This is an absolute gem that should not be missed!
LES CHANSONS D'AMOUR is an excellent entertainment feature to those with real eyes, hearts and ears. Having said that, a lot of impostors reviewed it quite badly but cannot blame them actually because they are absolutely impostors. The dialogues are mostly done in songs that are sung by the actors themselves... and mind you, they sing them in perfect notes.
I find the ménage à trois arrangement so funny and cute -- as they say, this is not at all strange in in the city of love and romance. And surprisingly, the chemistry that run between Ismaël and Erwann was so passionately engaging. A MUST SEE but I must warn you how the impostors felt about it!
LE FATE IGNORANTI is quite unique as compared to most films of its genre. You can say it's original except for the accident scene of Massimo (Andrea Renzi) which I believe is a copy of a scene in "Meet Joe Black" starring Brad Pitt.
Overall, the film is full of warmth, passion and tenderness... I'd say that it's a great film for all the sexes!
MÄNNER WIE WIR is amazingly interesting and at the same time, very entertaining. I would personally love to see a gay soccer team winning a real game with the straight guys. Hmmm... I wonder how the straight spectators would react... just in case.
LILIES – LES FELUETTES is certainly not the usual type of film you see... its artistry and Shakespearean effect are so mesmerizing that I can’t help myself adore its entirety not to mention how great the all-male acting ensemble portrayed their respective roles, be it a man or a woman.
Well, just don’t get mixed up with the play and the flashbacks... and you’ll definitely enjoy this brilliant film from Canada.
Overuse of drugs particularly in a gay film very often disgusts me for I find no reason why it always has to be a part of it when it is very clear that without its presence, the story would remain intact. But in CIRCUIT, it is definitely a must -- its rampant use of drugs just makes it more realistic and vivid.
To my belief, this is one of the best gay features ever filmed. It’s powerful and moving. Its convincing and realistic depiction is such an experience that one does not need to see the real thing. And it made me realize that some people are into it because it is one escape from the world of homophobia and sarcasm.
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is probably the most popular amongst all gay-themed films as it has received the highest critical acclaim in the US but its entirety as a whole is not enough to be on the top of this blog nor top all the rest in the globe. However, it deserves all the honours it has received because it is indeed one great cinematic experience. My Number 10!
